Federal funding

The Australian Apprenticeships Incentives programme aims to help develop a highly skilled and relevant Australian workforce that supports economic sustainability and competitiveness.

This is achieved by encouraging:

  • genuine opportunities for skills-based training and development
  • the opportunity to enter into skills-based training through an Australian Apprenticeship.

Eligibility criteria for taking on a trainee includes:

  • is an Australian permanent resident or citizen (or New Zealand passport holder who have been here for more than six months)
  • has not completed a diploma or degree
  • has not completed any qualifications within the last 7 years that are cert 3 or higher
  • is a new worker* (employed for less than 3 months full time or 12 months part time).

Eligibility criteria for taking on an apprentice includes:

  • is an Australian permanent resident or citizen (or New Zealand passport holders who has been here for more than six months)
  • is a new worker* (employed for less than 3 months full time or 12 months part time).

*There are variations to these requirements including where qualifications are listed on the national skills needs list.
